Hanna van Steenbergen Netherlands

It was a great opportunity for me to visit from the Netherlands the JCR International school in Karuizawa and to meet all the other young rheumatologists/rheumatologic scientists. We had three days with interesting scientific presentations with lots of time for questions and discussion. I was the first who was presenting his own data and it was really nice that I got so many positive comments and valuable questions. It was especially very nice that everyone was encouraged to actively participate in the discussions and to see that everyone did so. In addition, the JCR International school was very well organised. I would like to thank all the members that were involved in the organisation and all participants for the great time that I had in Japan. Afterwards I had a wonderful holiday week in Tokyo. I would certainly advise my Dutch colleagues to visit the JCR international school if they would get the opportunity.

Kazuha Kizaki Japan

It was really fantastic time spending with super-talented young rheumatologists and scientists coming all over the world. All people are super-knowledgeable and all talks inspired me and highly motivated me.
On the beginning of the seminar, prof. Jego Eric gave us a lecture for super-practical oral presentation skills and I realized that my presentation skill dramatically has improved.
All three days, we intensively discussed a lot and got very close to each other. I hope we, graduates from this seminar, would take the initiative near future for developing rheumatology on this planet. Lastly, this seminar reminded me of the fact that science is profoundly exciting.

Koichi Murata Japan

It was my great pleasure to have the opportunity to participate in JCR International School 2017 in Karuizawa. I enjoyed the scientific interaction with many young excellent researchers. It was a good opportunity for young rheumatologists to get in touch with the latest scientific knowledge in rheumatology. I appreciate all the efforts by organizing staffs and participants. Thank you.

Okinori Murata Japan

It was a great opportunity for me to participate in the JCR international school 2017 in Karuizawa. I appreciate my tutor, Dr. Ikeda who gave me good advises to blush up my presentation. I presented our research titled “Clinical and immunological significance of radiographic thymus alterations in patients with rheumatoid arthritis”. At my presentation, I had much more questions than I had expected, and all questions were constructive and suggestive. But I couldn’t exactly understand what questioners speak in English. I thought that I should practice listening in English more hard and would like to have more hot discussions. Anyway, I really enjoyed this school not only lectures and discussions but also drinking party at night. I will strongly recommend the participation to JCR International School and hope this school will continue in the future. Thank you very much.

Hiroshi Ebe Japan

I had a great opportunity to participate in the JCR international school 2017 in this summer. The tutor of the session had given me many valuable advices before my presentation and pre-seminar lecture by E. H. Jego was very informative for me. By actively participating in the question and answer session, I was able to deepen my understanding of the latest topics in the field of rheumatism and improve my communication skills in English although it was a short period of time.
At the social gathering I was able to deepen my friendship with domestic and foreign young rheumatologists. I would like to make use of this precious experience in the future.

Mineto Ota Japan

It was my great pleasure to have an opportunity to participate in the JCR international school 2017 in Karuizawa. The intense discussion with young enthusiastic rheumatologists all over the world was very exciting and fruitful for me. From the wonderful and interesting lecture about English presentation at the beginning, the workshop started with relaxed atmosphere. Spending most of time together from morning to night, the participants naturally made friends. And the more familial we got, the more exciting scientific discussion became! 15minute discussion gave us a lot of opportunities to discuss deeply from both clinical and research point of view, and the comments from surprisingly prestigious tutors gave us a lot of suggestive insights.
I have the actual feeling that it was good that I participated in this meeting. I’d like to appreciate the great supports of organizing committee members.

Jung Hee Koh Korea

I was very glad to participate in JCR international school in 2017. First of all, it was a great pleasure that I had a good friendship with young rheumatologists of Japan and counterparts. I hope this friendship will continue and become a great collaborator of each other in the near future.
I enjoyed two days with interesting talks and discussions on various rheumatology topics. At first, I was very surprised that the time for one talk and discussion was fixed, and worried about questions that I should answer. I’m not sure that I have responded appropriately, but I enjoyed the discussion time and I also got motivated. I appreciate the warm comments from all seniors of JCR.
Certainly, I will recommend this program to my dearest young investigators in Korea. I hope to see everyone soon!

Yasushi Kondo Japan

First of all, I sincerely appreciate JCR International School steering committee for giving me a great opportunity to present my recent work. I would like to thank my tutor and all participants giving me wonderful advices and suggestions. Before arriving at Karuizawa, I was so nervous because I have never experienced such a long 15-minutes discussion time in English. However, all presentations in this meeting were interesting and exciting. Honestly, I really enjoyed to have lively discussions on each presentation and communicate with young coeval rheumatology researchers. This is the place to come into new science and friendship! So, I strongly recommend young following researchers to attend this JCR seminar and hope this seminar will continue long in Karuizawa. Thank you very much.

Yuki Inoue Japan

It was my pleasure to participate JCR international school 2017. I have little chance to listening and speak English. So it was very difficult for me to present in front of the participants in English. And answering to the questions immediately in English was really tough too. I would like to brush up my English skill in the future. In addition, participants were very passionate that I received a very good stimulation as rheumatologist. Finally, I thank all of the participants, tutors and staff in this school.

Ikuma Nakagawa Japan

I would like to thank the Japan College of Rheumatology and the organizers and all of staff for giving me the great opportunity to attend this school. In this school, unlike the other usual conferences or meetings, we could actively discuss about our research in enough time without any sense of hesitation. It was a very great experience for me to make a deep discussion, and to make a discussion in English.
We could make friends with wonderful colleagues. Even after the school, I contacted some of the members and discussed about my or their research by e-mail.
I am sure that this school helps a lot to develop the Immunology and Rheumatology in Japan, and even in the world.
Finally, I would like to express my gratitude again to the JCR international committee for this great opportunity. I hope this school may continue in future.

Sho Sendo Japan

It was great opportunity for me to participate in the JCR international school 2017 in Karuizawa. I would like thank the organizers for give me the valuable experiences. I presented my work about unique dendritic cell subset in interstitial lung disease in SKG mice. It was exciting for me to present and discuss my research for 30 minutes in English, because the young investigators and the mentors eagerly give me some questions and comments. I learned a lot of things by listening other researcher’s presentations. In addition, comfortable climate in Karuizawa relaxed me, and the dinner party after meeting made me many friends. I would like to recommend my junior colleagues to attend the next JCR international school. Thank you very much.

Yu-Min Kuo Taiwan

I am more than honored to attend the meeting and Prof. Yoshiya Tanaka and other tutors share a lot of valuable experiences in a very humorous atmosphere not only in the formal programs but also in occasion that we cheers (kanpai) with each other.
On the first day of the meeting, Dr. Kizaki from Kyoto explored the problem of oxidation, and he impressed us a lot by starting to use the apple discoloration. Then he jump into oxidized albumin, his main topic.
Dr. Miyazaki reported the roles of Th22 cells in RA. Perhaps this study also provided some demonstration that how the R&D can be performed.
I am also impressed by Dr. Ota with the “big data”, and by the fairly visualized slides by Dr. Nakagawa. We did learn a lot from the beginning from a speech by Prof. Jego. I adjust my perspective to know that these is a gap between spoken and written cultures. And I try “nude presentation” with telling a story of research career in the beginning of my topic talk. This is inspired by the presentation skill lecture. Concerning the Q& A Workshop, I felt that it may be better to be held later on the second day of meeting since we may apply these techniques more.
I also feel very warm to exchange to the business card after the meeting, and I would like advise anyone to bring more business cards.

Yumiko Sugiyama Japan

I am grateful and honored to receive this kind of opportunity to take part in the JCR International School in Karuizawa in 2017. Before the seminar, I was so worried about my presentation because I’ve never experienced such a long presentation and discussion. However, my tutor, Dr. Yasuda was so kind and gave me many advices to improve my presentation. Once the seminar started, everything was exciting.
All the young rheumatologists had both basic and clinical research minds and they were really motivated. They were so informative and I was so encouraged by them. As for my presentation, of course, there were so many hard and specific questions and suggestions, however, they were to the point and I learned a lot from them. Moreover, even after the session, we discussed about each theme, clinical problem, and future plans as a rheumatologist. It was so wonderful. Sometimes we had a smart discussion, and sometimes we talked while laughing. I’d like to keep in touch with them from now on.
If you consider participating in this seminar, don’t hesitate over the application and you could experience a pleasant time in Karuizawa!
And last but not least, I’d like to thank all the doctors as the chairpersons and the tutors especially Dr. Tanaka and the JCR staff.

Shunsuke Mori Japan

I was happy to take a part in the JCR international school 2017 in this summer. Indeed, I had been so nervous because amazing students and tutors as rheumatologist or orthopedist were gathering in the seminar. However I found it was honor that they listened to my presentation and discuss it. Moreover it was also a great opportunity for me to learn how they think and make presentations. The exotic mood in Karuizawa made me a little more positive than usual, so I communicated with a lot of participants so much. The seminar became my valuable experience as not only rheumatologist but also individual.

Takeshi Ueha Japan

I am Takeshi Ueha from Kobe University Graduate School of Medicine. Thank you for invitation for Japan College of Rheumatology International School Meeting 2017 in Karuizawa. It was a very meaningful time for my life to tell about immunological research with many medical doctors for three days. I listened many presentation and learned new knowledge of immunological disease. Moreover, I presented on the topic “The Low Mitochondrial Biogenesis Induces Synovial Cell Proliferation and Enhances Joint Destruction in Rheumatoid Arthritis” supported by my tutor, Dr. Kishimoto, and got many advices and questions. They made me realize what I did not notice and know. Therefore, if someone is wondering to participate in this meeting, I will strongly recommend.
Finally, I express my respect for Japan College of Rheumatology and International School Committee members who are supported fostering rheumatology researchers.

Hirokazu Sasaki Japan

It was my great pleasure to have the opportunity to participate in JCR International School 2017 in Karuizawa. The lecture to improve our presentation during pre-session was helpful for me. We had enough time to talk each other and enjoyed alcohol in the night.
Since the participants came from various regions, I discussed the differences of therapeutic strategies for connective tissue diseases in the regions. The international school was a good opportunity for me to learn how to present and discuss in English and to make friends.
I thank all of supporters and teachers.

Melissa Northcott Australia

I would like to thank the Japanese College of Rheumatology for giving me the opportunity to participate in the JCR International School. It was a wonderful experience to meet other young rheumatologists and hear about a variety of very high quality research. Karuizawa was a beautiful location and I thoroughly enjoyed staying there. The other participants and tutors were very welcoming and friendly and I look forward to catching up at conferences in the future.
